My list of what helps me with pain and symptoms of CRPS/RSD.

With CRPS/RSD I have learned to take one day at a time. Many things have helped in in my journey to wellness,.

Having breaks between major flare ups is a blessing and an indication that I'm on the right path. Here are some of the things I've found to help with pain and symptoms.

I am a sufferer not a professional. These things work for me about which I am very thankful. If you think something may help you check first with your treating practitioners.

A lot can happen in a decade.

I wrote this last year, ten years after the incident which led to CRPS/RSD.

I wasn’t sure if I could move. Tumbling down 13 stairs in the dark wasn’t how I’d planned these “new beginnings” from the country to the city. It was three days into my dream job, three weeks of sick leave, three months long service leave, to rehabilitate after years of trying to cope. Compassionate redundancy! I wasn’t sure if I could move. This wasn’t how I planned my “new beginnings” - but verdant landscape calmed my torment. Weightless, caressed by tepid waters of The Bay, immersed in its creative spirit I now aspire. It’s time for new beginnings A lot can happen in a decade.

The Dreaming Festival Australia

I'm going to the Dreaming Festival tomorrow. We'll stay on site in our caravan so we can pace ourselves and be immersed in the experience. Each night for the next 4 nights we'll sit around a camp fire hearing stories and making friends.

My Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture treatment.

I mentioned in a previous post that I'm having Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture in a plan to stop CRPS symptoms. What I'm hoping is that my dysautonomia will become normal autonomic nervous function. When this happens I expect that, as last year, Not only will my blood pressure and heart rate normalize, but that other things like vascular/temperature changes will also be calmed. I also expect inflammation to stop and my pain levels to significantly decrease, ie the CRPS pain. I have a permanent injury with arthritic changes in my right wrist so I do not realistically expect all pain to cease.

On Monday I had my second YNSA treatment. As on Friday I felt a calmness envelop me. With this goes a reduction in pain. The interesting thing I've noticed is that both on Friday and on Monday I became more alert, or switched on. I've come to see myself as vague and lacking in concentration. In particular since developing CRPS my mathematical, processing ability has really slowed. Remarkably my old ability to think very quickly returned. If only briefly, this was a very good and very much unexpected result. I have the third treatment tomorrow and will post how it goes.

You can create pathways to happiness.

Many times I've mentioned "the new science of pain". I written about how the brain changes with pain. It's been shown by imaging that imagined movements or seeing movements activate the same brain pathways as if actually doing the activity, "monkey see, monkey do". From this discovery mirror therapy was developed.

It's also known that if we think negatively about our pain (this is the worst pain ever), our brain changes in an unhelpful way, just as it changes in a beneficial way when we think positively about our pain (I can cope with this).

So scientists have discovered that you can change your brain by what you imagine not just by actions. You can benefit by practicing feeling happy. The left frontal cortex, known as the seat of happiness, will be activated. This link to BBC News Channel talks about

My treatment with Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture for CRPS?RSD.

Previously I've mentioned that I've had remission from Yamamoto New Scalp Acupuncture. For research information on this go to the left of this blog and scroll down. If you also look under "tags" you will find posts about what happened last year.

Last Friday I had the first in a new series of YNSA. Immediately I noticed a calming, relaxing of mind and body. I believe this is because the parasympathetic nervous system is activated.

I have the second treatment today. At this time I have pain lower right quadrant, upper left quadrant and right wrist pain. The upper left pain is caused by inflammation in the intercostal spine area. I have semame oil massage followed by a warm heat pack twice a day. Since Friday the pain has eased a litttle. I'll blog about this as it will be a record for me about the effectiveness of this treatment.
